The A,B,C's of Behavior
If you're isolating your dog due to his behavior, or tired of struggling with the same problems over and over again, we’re here to help. Your dog is not being stubborn or spiteful. They're doing what works! Our behavior modification programs are based on the science of how dogs learn. Imagine being dropped in a foreign country and not knowing the language. For many dogs, living with people is just as confusing. Our training program will give you and your dog the tools and understanding needed to develop a happy, harmonious home.
Ask yourself this question:
What happens before what happens happens? Sounds like a tongue twister right? It's actually quite simple, the answer can be broken down into a formula of A, B, C:
A = Antecedent. What motivates your dog? Is there a cue or trigger that precedes the unwanted behavior? The cue could be you place food on the counter, or there's knock on the door.
B = The Behavior. What is the unwanted behavior and most importantly, what would you like the dog to do instead? The unwanted behavior could be counter surfing or charging the door. What could your dog do instead when the food comes out or the knock occurs? Station on their mat? Sit? Go pick up a toy?
C = Consequence. How is your dog being reinforced for the behavior? Manage the consequence to change the behavior.
Sometimes the answers to these questions are easy to see. Motivation can wax and wane depending on how valuable the reinforcer is at any given time or place. For example, food can be highly reinforcing when the dog is relaxed and has an appetite. However, when satiated or over-aroused, food may be a distraction rather than a reward.
We follow the *LIMA principle (Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive) as outlined by the International Association of Animal Behaviorists. (Link here)
Beginning with an initial assessment, we will develop a training and management plan that methodically builds desirable behaviors in place of undesirable ones. Book your 20 minute phone consult here

When our Border Collie mix started displaying anxiety and aggression issues we thought there was no hope. He began biting people and fighting with my other dogs. It was horrific! I feared for the safety of my family. Then I was introduced to Caroline Albert. All I can say is “SHE IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!” While I have worked with others who use the Clicker Method of training, no one has mastered the technique like her. She is truly gifted. Training from an aspect of love, patience and forgiveness she has transformed our pup into a much calmer and happier guy. Words cannot express my gratitude to her. Whether you are looking for some basic training or you have a pet with issues, you could do no better than Caroline!"
