Daycare

Please note: Our daycare program usually full. New inquiries will be assessed and then placed on a waiting list.

Daycare
Grateful Dog Training offers enrichment based daycare. Supervised by well-trained staff, dogs in our care thrive by following a predictable schedule and playing with the same friend groups each week. Our handling reinforces behaviors learned in the Day Training program and includes daily recall practice, group sits, wait at doorways, hand targeting, training games and obstacle work. Rather than leave your dog home alone all day, you'll feel secure dropping him off for a fun day with friends. Dogs are grouped according to size and play style. Chaperones facilitate play, offer group training, rotate toys, supply clean water, and give the best overall body rubs! We plan each day to ensure your dog's delight and diversion - the utmost fun in a safe environment.

Daycare could be the right choice for your dog if:
  • You're spending long hours away from home and  looking for an alternative to your dog’s boredom and isolation. Behavioral problems such as chewing, excessive barking, anxiety and excitability can often be helped by making sure your dog's exercise and enrichment needs are  met.
  •  Your dog needs socialization in a structured setting. Daycare can play a valuable role, helping to balance the demands of a busy lifestyle and the needs of your pet.
  • Your dog is a social butterfly! If your pup loves to play and the company other dogs.
  • Your dog needs to build confidence around other dogs and people. Our outstanding mentor dogs and gentle staff have a high success rate in helping wall flowers blossom. There's no better feeling that watching your once timid pup bound in to the building with happy anticipation.

Recommendations
We want your dog to look forward to regular weekly drop-offs. The best way to ensure low stress, high compatibility between dogs is through consistency. For this reason we recommend a two day per week commitment and regular attendance. This ensures a spot for your dog with their regular play group; the relationship between the staff and your dog will grow; and your dog will look forward to drop-off at their second home.
  • Crate training is recommended. We enjoy a quiet time after lunch each day. Crates are made cozy and comfortably bedded. Crate training ensures each dog has a safe space to doze or eat lunch.

Requirements
Up to date on the following vaccinations:
•    (DHLPP) Distemper, hepatitis, lepto, parainfluenza and parvovirus
•    Bordatella
•    Rabies
All vaccinations must have been given at least seven (7) days prior to arrival. Veterinary titers (except state required rabies vax) dated within one year are acceptable proof of vaccination.
  • Negative Fecal including Giardia '

Temperament and Suitability
Though many dogs thrive in a busy setting, daycare is not for all dogs. To ensure safety each dog must pass a temperament and behavioral assessment, and then maintain or improve upon their baseline throughout their enrollment. Dogs displaying extreme separation anxiety, aggression toward dogs or people, bullying, excessive barking; or who have medical problems such as epilepsy, are not suitable candidates. Behavior is not static.  It's natural for some dogs to 'date out' of daycare as they become socially mature. This is often a normal consequence of a dog's innate temperament and hereditable traits. We reserve the right to dismiss any dog without notice if their behavior becomes unsafe or unmanageable. If appropriate, we will help you address behavioral issues through training and management.

Samantha, my two year old Samoyed, loves her daycare at Grateful Dog. I never used daycare before because they were not as professional as Caroline and her staff. Samantha had to pass a personality test and show proof of all her shots before she could join the happy crowd. The pooches are constantly supervised and don't spend the day in small cages. When Sam comes home she is happy and tired and looks forward to her next play-day. I start training with the Grateful Dog and look forward to that experience."
