Board and Train is the best training option for dogs that demand close management and supervision. Your dog will live at one of our trainer's homes and benefit from 24/7 management and training.

How Do We Begin?

Virtual or in-person, we start with an initial consultation where we’ll discuss your lifestyle, goals, any behavioral challenges, and assess your dog’s temperament.

From there, we’ll recommend a customized training plan best suited to meet you and your dog's needs.

Board and Train is an excellent option with uncompromised results.

Foundation training begins with impulse control, attention, and focus. The goal is not to micromanage, but give your dog the skills they need to understand life with humans. During their stay with us your dog will experience a wide variety of new environments and training opportunities. We address and train basic skills like sit, down, automatic eye contact, hand targeting, go to mat (settling behavior), food bowl manners, polite greetings, wait or stay, leave it, drop, and recall work. We may be able to address reactivity and fear issues that need professional counterconditioning and desensitization. Note that this is case dependent and our standard Board and Train is not appropriate for dogs with separation anxiety or aggression. Should your dog struggle with one of these issues, ask about the extended Last Hope Rescue and Rehab Program managed by Cassidy Albert.

At Grateful Dog, we set your dog up for success with a skillfully designed training plan, careful management and balanced enrichment. We understand that sending your dog away for training is both an emotional and financial investment. As one of the few positive reinforcement board and train facilities in the North East, we welcome dogs from all over New England; with many satisfied customers offering word of mouth referrals outside of the confines of our beautiful home state of Vermont.

Unless you are an established client enrolled in our daycare or training classes, Board and Train has a minimum two-week commitment. We've designed the program to ensure your dog has time to settle into our home and adjust to their new routine. We can also accommodate extended stays.
